INTERVIEW WITH NICK HEGARTY

Jun 23, 2016 - 11:31am

It was my pleasure to be able to interview the Captain of Hume City FC, Mr Nick Hegarty on behalf of Melbournefutbol.com last week.
Nick has brought his performance to top form recently and has really been the pillar of strength for his team (guiding, leading and carrying them towards success). He had some honest, open and hopeful things to say about the future of his club.

Melbournefutbol: With wins against Avondale Heights, wins obtained in the FFA Cup and the recent win against Oakleigh Cannons, do you think Hume City, even with all the transfers mid-season, finally has its ideal squad?
Nick Hegarty: If we look at our recent success and the quality of soccer we are playing, I would say yes. I think we have the best defensive team in the NPL. With our second Captain, Shane Rexhepi, Jeremy Walker, Rama Tavsancioglu, Peter Franjic (who will be coming back after being away for 8 months injury leave) and left back (new transfer) Charlie Beverley, I believe we have a strong squad. Declan Hargreaves has strengthened our mid-field and with Theo Markelis, Kristian Trajceski, Daniel Clark, Joseph Franjic and I working together, I honestly don’t see any impending issues. I don’t have much to say about our forwards – too many good players to mention. Kofi Danning, Kym Harris, Tom Cahill, Danny Dixon and Craig Carley all having A League experience and working together on field, no doubt we are going to finish the season with success!
I am very happy with my team and they are actually my pillar of strength and support. We don’t play for individual success, we play as a team. We struggle as a team, fight as a team, strive as a team and celebrate our victories and losses as a team.

Melbournefutbol: As Captain of the team can you let us know a little about your personal goals and the goals of the boys?

Nick Hegarty: We have four goals, aims, objectives until the end of the season:
-As our first goal we would love to win the Docerty Cup and present this as a gift to our club president
-We would like to get into the final group of the NPL
-Finish as champions of the NPL; and
-Be able to get as far as we can possibly go in the FFA Cup.

On behalf of Melbournefutbol.com, I would like to thank Captain Nick Hegarty for his time and wish him and Hume City FC all the best for the rest of the season.
