KAPTAN HEGARTY FFA KUPASINDAN ÜMİTLİ

Mar 12, 2015 - 9:00pm

Anadoluspor is keen to go one better this season and qualify for the knockout stage of the FFA Cup after falling at the final hurdle last year.

A surprise loss to state league minnows South Springvale in the qualifying rounds ended Anadolu's hopes of a run in the inaugural nationwide FFA Cup.

Club Captain Nick Hergarty, who missed the fixture last term against South Springvale, is upbeat about Hume’s chances in the Cup competition going forward.
The Englishman believes a positive run of results in the league will help the club make the necessary moves in qualifying for the FFA Cup.

“We (Anadoluspor) are looking to cement our place in the top four in this first set of [league] games, and get ourselves in the FFA Cup,” Hergarty said.

Last season, Victorian football watched on as Bentleigh Greens quickly became the darlings of the Cup. The Greens experienced appearances on Fox Sports’ and live crosses to the clubs’ canteen with images of Mike Cockerill enjoying a meaty souvlaki on live television.

Hergarty expects a host of local Victorian clubs to be making efforts to face similar adoration on the big screen.

“Every club in the NPL is looking to get that big tie at home to an A-League club and to get on Fox Sports. That’s what everybody is looking for and that’s the beauty of football,” he said.

Before Anadoluspor  can create upsets against A-League opposition they will need to face teams with a lower profile. Saturday afternoon,  Anadoluspor  host Riverside in the club's first FFA Cup qualifying game.
The midfielder is weary of complacency ahead of Saturday’s game.

“Maybe it is a lesser game this weekend, but we won’t be going in underestimating them, they’ve done well,” Hergarty said.

“They’re going to probably have an inexperienced team that could cause an upset on the day."

With the recent signings on and off the field in the off-season, the club is confident in their quality, but Hergarty reaffirms that anything is possible in football.

“With quality that we’ve got if we do things right and apply ourselves correctly we should come out on top.

“But its one of those game you never know, we just got to make sure we’re not a team with egg on our face in the end."

Anadoluspor's FFA Cup match at ABD Stadium, Valley Park kicks off at 2pm on Saturday, 14 March.
